Hi everyone! We hope you’re doing well. In this post we will be testing the A5 Pink Pig Watercolour Sketchbook.
Pink Pig handcraft sketchbooks and watercolour sketchbooks in the United Kingdom. Their grey board is made from 100% recycled post-consumer waste. At Jacksons we currently sell their sketchbooks and watercolour sketchbooks.

A5 is a decent size for plein air and travelling. The book is also spiral bound which makes it easier to flip the pages and hold in one hand. The book also comes with hard covers which makes it easy for me to use my clip-on magnets to hold my Dipper and the Daler Rowney Aquafine Watercolour Mini Travel Set to the side.

Overall, my painting experience with this watercolour sketchbook was pretty decent. As someone who loves Arches paper I had low expectations. The paper in the Pink Pig Watercolour book is a smooth 300gsm cartridge matte paper. It took the paint well and it didn’t warp. I was able to peel the washi tape off without tearing the paper, which is not always the case with all watercolour papers. Both sides of the pages can be painted on without one side ghosting onto the other so you can maximise using both sides of the page.
I would recommend this book for quick sketches and transportability for plein air and travelling.
It’s also good if you prefer the texture of smooth watercolour paper. It can also take finer tools like Fineliners and Brushpens well without interrupting the drawings with the paper's texture. The smooth texture is also ideal for pencils and Watercolour Pencils. Below is a quick drawing of a Splendid Fairy Wren using Albrecht Durer Watercolour Pencils and Westart Sable Round Brushes. Once again the results seem decent:
