Gouache is a type of paint that shares similar characteristics with both watercolour and acrylic paint. It consists of natural pigment, a binding agent (this can be gum arabic or dextrin) and water. Gouache is designed to be opaque, which allows it to create rich and vibrant colours when painting. Less transparent than watercolour and less glossy than acrylic, gouache paint dries to a matte finish and can be reactivated with water when dry.
