A family business since 1955, Jacksons Drawing Supplies (“Jacksons”) is proud of our history from humble beginnings. It all began from an upstairs showroom next to the Royal Hotel in William Street, Perth, on January 1, 1955.
The company’s origins however go back to Kalgoorlie, to the years before World War II when Harry Jackson formed a partnership in a printing and stationery business with a young man named George Jordan, called “Jordan and Jackson".
After being discharged from the Royal Australian Airforce in April 1946, Harry Jackson plunged back into business life. However, in 1953 due to his wife’s ill health, together with the struggling economy in Kalgoorlie, prompted Harry to move his family and open a business in Perth.
In 1955 the name ‘JACKSONS DRAWING SUPPLIES’ was registered, and the business opened in William Street.
In 1962, Harry later bought the shop and warehouse located at 103 Rokeby Road, Subiaco to accommodate the fast-growing business. These premises became the head-office and store, the nerve centre of the business. Our Subiaco Store is still there today.
Harry also began to manufacture his own products such as folios, sketch pads and pots of poster paints under the ‘Jacksons’ label. More and more products began to bear the ‘Jacksons’ label, also in the 1970s the "Westart" label was registered.
Since Harry Jackson’s retirement in 1977, his son Kevin continued as Managing Director. Kevin opened many more Jacksons stores in Alfred Cove, Balcatta, Fremantle, Joondalup, Victoria Park as well as regional stores such as Bunbury, Busselton, Darwin, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Mandurah and Alice Springs.
In 1991 Jacksons success meant there was a need for a larger warehouse, moving to 94 Jersey Street, Jolimont whilst still operating the Head Office out of 103 Rokeby Road, Subiaco.
In 1995 Jacksons celebrated its 40th Anniversary.
In 1998 Jacksons moved to a larger facility at 594 Hay Street, Jolimont, incorporating Head Office, warehouse and the Jacksons Ceramics Centre.
In 2005, Jacksons proudly celebrated its 50th anniversary.
In 2009, Jacksons marked another growth milestone with the relocation of the Head Office, Warehouse/Administration to 21 Gibberd Road, Balcatta.
In 2010, upon Kevin Jackson’s retirement, the then company's General Manager – Michael Boercamp jumped at the opportunity to purchase the Company, eager to continue the legacy of being an independently-owned Family business.
Michael has been with Jacksons since 1995 operating as the General Manager when he purchased the business in 2010. Michael has continually focused on the company’s product range, store locations and fit outs, operations and systems, including the launch of this new website.
Michael has a keen interest in art and is also a collector. Michael is proud of Jacksons being an independently family run business supporting Australian Artists.
In 2015, Jacksons was proud to celebrate its 60th Anniversary.
